Distraction-Free Zone

taking the call in a distraction-free zone can really help. This could be as simple as moving into a quieter room if there is noise around you or even putting your computer in sleep mode.

Access to Notes

It’s a good idea to have a tablet or a pad of paper to take notes during the call. And if you’ve prepared for the call ahead of time, you’ll be able to access your outline that way.

Stand and Pace

If you can take the call standing because you’ll have more energy and you’ll more easily be able to use your hands as we discussed. Pacing is a great way to stay engaged and actively participate in the conversation. Some people find doodling has the same effect. Figure out if you’re a pacer or a doodler and go with it. 

Smile to Relieve Tension

Alleviates tension and calms nerves. It also makes your voice more pleasant sounding. 

Diaphragmatic Breathing

This centers you and ensures that you are not hyperventilating if you get too nervous. Using the power of your diaphragm by taking deep breaths can also help you project your voice and sound clearer. The added bonus is that when you speak from your diaphragm, you use your power pitch and that gives the impression that you are credible and know what you’re talking about. It makes you sound authoritative and confident. These are important, especially in business contexts.
